Maximize Use Of Vertical Space
By utilizing walls and other unused spaces on the perimeter of your yard, you’re able to fit more into a small space. Vertical gardens or living walls can add a variety of different plants into an area that might not have room for large garden beds or other spaces to allow plants to grow to maximum size. By using vertical hanging planters, trellises, climbing plants or palettes standing on end, you can make better use of the space you have.
Make Use Of A Scaled Focal Point
Focal points are used to draw the eye to a specific location. You might find choosing a focal point difficult in a small space as you don’t want it overwhelming the entire area. However, scaling the focal point down to size allows you to attract the eye without drawing attention to the size of the area. Think about using a water feature, statue or tree that is proportional to the rest of the space.
Install Pavers Diagonally
If you want to install pavers in the ground to create a patio or footpath, think about arranging them diagonally so they reach out to the corners of the plot. This will cause the area to appear larger as the stones draw the eye out towards the edges. Long straight lines will help with the illusion.
Bring Colour To The Front
By placing colourful plants and other materials with bold tints closer to the front, the eye is drawn to them. This allows the rest of the space to taper off into the background and make the space appear larger. If you plan on colourful flowers, plant them upfront to allow your small space to look bigger.
